Paul B. Averill, D.V.M.
Dr. Averill established Averill Animal Hospital in 1983
Dr. Averill moved to Georgia in 1974 from New Orleans and has lived in Dahlonega since 1993. He graduated from high school in New Orleans in 1965 and received his B.S. in Agriculture for Dairy Manufacturing from the University of Southwestern Louisiana at Lafayette in 1970. He received his D.V.M. from Auburn University in 1974. Dr. Averill’s hobbies include the sport of purebred dogs, golf, fishing and bowling. His family includes his inspiring wife, Donna, and four wonderful children: Kenny, Joanne, Russell and Megan. His family also includes horses, sheep, a parrot, a canary, peacocks, cats and dogs. He attends St. Luke’s Catholic Church in Dahlonega. Dr. Averill’s interests in veterinary medicine include surgery, animal husbandry and theriogenology. |

Matthew J. Nelson, D.V.M.
Dr. Nelson joined us in 1992
Dr. Nelson has lived in Marietta for 25 years, graduated from McEachern High School in 1984 and received his B.S. in Biology from Kennesaw State College in 1988. He received his D.V.M. from the University of Georgia College of Veterinary Medicine in 1992, where he graduated Magna Cum Laude and received the Awards for Exceptional Proficiency in both Small and Large Animal Medicine and Surgery. His hobbies include helping his daughters show horses, golf, playing guitar, astronomy, playing with his kids and reading. His family includes his wife, Adrienne, and four children: John, Sarah, Maria and Jason. He has 3 dogs: Gigi, Miguel and Abigail; 2 cats: Blackjack and Goldie; 1 horse: Quila; 1 pony: Buttercup; and 3 goldfish. The Nelsons attend St. Joseph Catholic Church in Marietta. Dr. Nelson’s interests in veterinary medicine include orthopedic and soft-tissue surgery, internal medicine, emergency medicine and endoscopy. |
