Matthew J. Nelson, D.V.M.
Dr. Nelson joined us in 1992.
Dr. Nelson has lived in Marietta for over 30 years, graduated from McEachern High School in 1984 and received his B.S. in biology from Kennesaw State University in 1988. He received his D.V.M. from the University of Georgia College of Veterinary Medicine in 1992, where he graduated Magna Cum Laude and received the Awards for Exceptional Proficiency in both Small and Large Animal Medicine and Surgery. Dr. Nelson loves to read and to ride his bike. He also blogs about both veterinary topics and topics such as human trafficking (on his blog www.dvmforhope.com), is a licensed Ham Radio operator (KM4HQM), and is a volunteer with Out Of Darkness in Atlanta. His family includes his wife Adrienne, four children: John, Sarah, Maria, & Jason. He has 4 dogs: Lovey, Cherry, Stinky, and Miguel; 3 Cats: Valhalla, Angelica, and Olie; 2 horses: Hollywood & Quila, and a pony, Buttercup. The Nelson Family attends St. Joseph Catholic Church in Marietta. Dr. Nelson’s interests in veterinary medicine include orthopedic and soft-tissue surgery, internal medicine, emergency medicine, and ultrasound.
Paul B. Averill, D.V.M.
Dr. Averill established Averill Animal Hospital in 1983.
Dr. Averill moved to Georgia in 1974 from New Orleans and has lived in Dahlonega since 1993. He graduated from high school in New Orleans in 1965 and received his B.S. in Agriculture for Dairy Manufacturing from the University of Southwestern Louisiana at Lafayette in 1970. He received his D.V.M. from Auburn University in 1974. Dr. Averill’s hobbies include the sport of purebred dogs, golfing, fishing, and bowling. His family includes his inspiring wife, Donna, and four wonderful children: Kenny, Joanne, Russell and Megan. His family also includes horses, sheep, a parrot, a canary, peacocks, cats, and dogs. He attends St. Luke’s Catholic Church in Dahlonega. Dr. Averill’s interests in veterinary medicine include surgery, animal husbandry, and theriogenology. In June 2012 Dr. Averill accomplished one of his lifelong goals of becoming an AKC Judge!
Kimberly Crosslin, D.V.M.
Dr. Kimberly Crosslin is originally from Florida. She received her undergraduate degree from Berry College in 2010, then graduated from Auburn University College of Veterinary Medicine in 2014. She has worked in small animal clinics in both Florida and Alabama gaining valuable experience since graduation but is excited to be back near family and friends in Georgia. Her professional interests include physical therapy and sports medicine, as well as dentistry, internal medicine, and wound care. Her underlying and strongest interest is providing a better quality of life for all her patients. Dr. Crosslin is married with a two children, and three rescued dogs. She loves sports and being outdoors.
